Nails

These, ladies and gentlemen, are the superstars of wood working. You cannot conceive wood working with no nails, at least as it is historically described, as being the first system for assembling and joining different types of handicraft. Seemingly, nails were the first iron-made stuff. There are also many types of nails. The most common ones are the ones with bold head. You can find as well the ones with no head, which are meant to be introduced in the wood and thus hidden. The early cut nails appeared in the 17th century. The next step in evolution was the machine made nail, which was flat and had no head. After that, only with the stamped nails these elements began to be cut with a head, on the mid 19th century. The wire nails –the ones used by everyone nowadays- date from the late 19th century, although cut nails remained the principal form used until the 1930s, and are still common.
