Saws and Handsaws

The main use of these tools is for cutting the wood, but we must differentiate them carefully. The saw is a steel sheet provided of triangular teeth in a zig zag shape. On the opposite side it has a rib which is the piece used for giving stregth to the sheet and thus more precision. Otherwise, the sheet will tend to bend itself with the pressure you make. This will allow you also to make a deeper cut.
The handsaw has a triangular steel part and the teeth are slightly more separated, which influences on the precision: it will be less than the saw but we cannot deny that the work is done quicker with this tool.

Tips for a safe handsaw

* Always remember that a fine cut depends on the steadiness of the hand.
* You will need a good measure, marking the wood and defining a line for the cut with a pencil. If you lose this line in the middle of the job stop sawing and remove the sawdust.
* Clamp the wood tightly to a sawhorse.
* Beware with the edge, mostly for your fingers and your leg.
* Point the saw slightly down, keep the grip firmly. Start the job.
* Always be concentrated when using a saw, try avoiding television and talking. Do your job but nothing more.
